Help Me Choose My Next Car!
Hello, humans of CarThrottle!
As many of you know, I’ve spent the last few months writing about – and making mediocre YouTube videos with – my Hummer and my Nissan Skyline GT-R. Now that I’ve sold them, it’s time for you to help me choose a new car to write about next year.
You can check out my criteria over on my Jalopnik column or in my YouTube video above, but I’m going to list the rules here, too. I’ll be paying attention to suggestions from CarThrottle users, and they’ll be going on my master list of car ideas that I’ll choose from.
Budget. The car shouldn’t cost more than $60,000, or maybe $65,000 for the perfect car.
Interest. I cannot stress this point enough: This car has to be something that you’re interested in hearing about for a while. The Hummer seemed to captivate everyone’s interest, week in and week out, for almost a year. On the other hand, some people complained a little about the Skyline. So before you send in your suggestion, ask yourself: Is this something I want to hear about for a year?
Cost. Although I’ve already covered the budget, cost is almost more important: the car cannot lose an insane amount of value over the next year. What I mean by this is, I cannot buy the car today for $50,000 and sell it in a year for $19,500 – that’s too expensive. Sadly, this rule eliminates virtually all new cars.
With these rules in mind, start suggesting some cars here on CarThrottle, on Twitter, or just about anywhere else you can find me! What do you want to hear about for the next year??

I reckon a British car could work
Maybe a hillman imp
Rear engine rear drive and quite popular for rallies, basically a Porsche
Maybe STI or EVO?
BMW M5 e60
Hell yeah
I really like that Idea! e60 M5 is a love hate car, the styling is not great. (not a fan of the bangle butt) But the internals mark the end of a great era, that V10 is just amazing. Would be cool to see what it is like to live with for a year (including maintenance), and what kind of opinions you get from the general public.
Correction: E39 M5*
Dinan stroker version would be nice :D
Yes! My dream car!
I remember you wrote about the s4 Avant like it was one of the dream cars,So I’ll suggest that.
Another one would be a classic muscle car, perhaps a 1970 Chevelle SS. It’d be interesting to hear about the looks you get with a straight piped v8 on Philadelphia streets. Also you could mention the kind of people interested in these cars, such as the old people at car meets.
As a second car, you can’t go wrong with an old police crown vic. This has been done, but it’d be nice to read about with the classic demuro twist.
Can’t wait!
Acura NSX?
Was about to comment this. Doug definitely wouldn’t have any problems with depreciation.
Yesssss. It’ll be fun hearing about how people refer to it as a Ferrari, haha. Preferably the Type R. If possible to import. Is it? Probably not.
Definitely on the list. Been a popular suggestion.
NSX tick’s all the boxes will definitely hold it’s value.
Renault Clio V6 or Renault 5 Turbo
Please take the clio v6
Don’t think you’ll find any in ‘Murica
Clio V6 is not old enough to import.
No dice on the Clio — we can’t have them here in the US. The Renault 5 might be cool…
buy both!
Trabant 601 or a Saab 9-2X (the Saabaru)
get a civic
Find the most reliable car for sale, except a Range Rover because you’ve already got one lol. Maybe an Alfa, a Lancia, old Jag, etc. There’ll be no shortage of articles of breakdowns.
Miata is always the answer…
