Hennessey Tells The Story Of Its Epic 265mph Venom GT Spyder Speed Run

Last month, the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder became the 'world's fastest convertible' after hitting a massive 265.6mph. This video takes a behind-the-scenes look at what went into the incredible top speed run

This bonkers top speed run is yet to be recognised by Guinness as an ‘official’ world record and most likely won’t ever be. Like the previous speed ‘record’ clocked by the coupe Venom GT, the Spyder’s effort won’t be considered by the organisation as not enough of the cars have been made for it to qualify as a production vehicle.

Official or not though, I’m sure we’ll all agree 265.6mph in a car without a roof is a stunning achievement.

I like the Venom, I think it looks stunning. But, why do they keep calling it a production car when it clearly isn’t? And why are they so proudly calling it American when it is a Lotus Exige underneath?

Underneath? You mean over top?

How to make a Hennessey Venom GT Spyder go 265mph
Step 1. Kidnap a poor innocent Lotus Elise
Step 2. Fly it to Texas
Step 3. Use it as a stretch band for a 15 minute exercise to increase wheelbase
Step 4. Hook it up to a I.V cord ad pump it full of steroids and Murica
Step 5. Tear it’s head off and make it go 265mph on a broken fuel pump
