Hennessey's Twin-Turbocharged Stingray Is A 707hp Smoke Machine

Hennessey's beefed-up version of the Corvette Stingray produces over 700hp thanks to the addition of twin turbochargers

Purveyor of 'the world's fastest car', Hennessey, has revealed its latest unhinged offering. The HPE700 Twin Turbo Corvette is the company's most powerful Stingray, producing a whopping 707bhp at 6400rpm and 661lb/ft of torque. That's an increase of 247bhp and 196lb/ft over the standard car's 460bhp and 465lb/ft figures.

The substantial power hike has been achieved thanks to the addition of two turbochargers, which run at 7psi of boost; you can't miss the twin blow-off valves.

From a standing start, Hennessey claims a 0-60mph time of 2.9 seconds (the standard car takes 3.8sec) and a top speed of 210mph, which exceeds the tuner's top speed Texas toll road run late last year.

For those interested, the HPE700 Stingray will punch through the quarter-mile mark in 10.5 seconds at 135.4mph.

Features of the new car include front, side and rear carbonfibre spoilers and 20-inch, 10-spoke forged monoblock alloys (which reduce the standard car's weight by 8kg).

Buyers looking to secure one of 24 cars for the 2014MY HPE700 get the option of either a seven-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox.

The price for all this power and performance? The Hennessey Stingray is yours for a cool $120,000 (£72,130). So it's not cheap, then, but the company does assure us that "the HPE700 experience is a rush, and will absolutely ruin driving a stock Stingray...there's just no going back."

If this video is anything to go by, who are we to argue?
