Here's Everything You Need To Know About How A Clutch Works
An educational YouTube engineering channel has released a new video that strips back the workings of a clutch, and it answers all the questions you were too afraid to ask
Asking exactly how a clutch works is one of those questions a lot of young petrolheads are afraid to ask. They think they’ll look stupid if they admit they don’t know. To them we say this: the uninformed person is far wiser than the wrongly informed one.
We found this video that takes the workings of a conventional clutch right back to basics. To be honest it’s a little patronising in places and we’d question the some of the advice/instruction in the ‘bite point’ section of the piece, but the first three-fifths or so are really instructive if you’re just not sure exactly how such an important gadget works.
Let us know what you think of the video, and then if you have more time to kill, try this lesson on why flywheels are so important.

It’s nice to see these basic educational videos of how the components in a car work again on CT. Hope there’ll be more of these in the future. ☺
Sadly there wont be more since ev’s will be shoved down our throats
For the first part it’s a good video, animations are always handy to see how something works
Why does that Z4 coupe have A V6?!?
This explained how the clutch works better than my teacher at college did.
The video is outstanding.
Keep it up
Partially released clutch on petrol vehicles= engine dies
Not if you get it right. I used to do this technique all the time with my 07 GMC Canyon. I generally did it for fun though :P
like he said its bad for your clutch
If you doing it without handbrake, but it’s easier with handbrake help.
Good stuff
I always wanted to know how it works and thanks to this article I finally found a good YouTube Channel connected with program education for me !
