In anticipation of its impending reveal, we commissioned these exclusive renderings to give a preview of the forthcoming AMG GT

With testing videos emerging and the release of interior pictures, the anticipation around Merc's upcoming new sports car is growing. With that in mind, we've commissioned these exclusive renderings to get an idea of how the car could end up looking. The Mercedes-AMG GT will succeed the SLS, but it isn't a direct replacement: instead, the cruisey SL300-inspired machine is making way for a sportier brute to take the fight to the Porsche 911.

Mercedes clearly has the 911 Turbo in its sights rather than the base-spec Carreras, as a power figure over 500bhp is expected. The grunt will come from a front-mounted 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, the same engine that we'll be seeing in the forthcoming C63. It'll be rear-wheel drive, and like other AMGs, there'll be no option for a manual gearbox.

Controversially, the GT will be dropping the surname of Mercedes founder Karl Benz from its title; the car will just be called Mercedes-AMG GT. It'll be only the second proper standalone model to be designed, engineered and constructed by AMG, following on from the SLS.

A full reveal of the car is expected later in the year. For now, you can see a heavily disguised GT undergoing testing at the Nurburgring in the video below.
