Here’s How A Formula 1 Hot Lap In 2017 Compares To 2016

Big Formula 1 regulations mean the cars are quicker than ever, as shown in this video comparison of a hot lap of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in 2016 and 2017

The two laps being compared are Lewis Hamilton’s 2016 Spanish Grand Prix pole time of a 1:22.000 and Valtteri Bottas’ 1:19.310 from day two of the second F1 winter test.

It’s a great way of seeing just how much quicker the W08 is compared to its predecessor, the W07, and getting a look at how differently the cars handle.

Although it it is worthing pointing out that Hamilton’s lap was on soft tyres, while Bottas did his on new, wider ultra-softs. Still, it’s encouraging to see these new 2017 cars being so much faster.

The v6 turbos are the most powerful engines since the earlier turbo era which produced 1000hp only in qualy . These v6s are the most powerful f1 engines in race mode . They produce double the torque of the v10s . Also the above comparison is unfair you’re comparison is unfair you’re comparing the v6s in their first year of development woth regulations aimed at reducing downforce vs the v10s in their final year in development. The v6s in only their 3rd year of development are the most powerful f1 engines in race mode . Face it these v6s have more potential than the v10s .

Oh and another thing. The 2016 cars were faster than your beloved 2004 v10s without traction control and an obnoxious amount of engines allowed per season
