Here's How Much Slower A Hellcat Is On Track Than A Mazda MX-5 RF
In a Motor Trend Head 2 Head, Jonny Lieberman thought he'd use a Charger Hellcat to try and beat the lap times set by Randy Pobst in a MX-5 RF and Toyota 86. It did not go well...
As is often the case with Motor Trend Head 2 Head battles, there’s one particular detail of this Mazda MX-5 RF vs Toyota 86 showdown that stands out. And that’s the moment Jonny Lieberman tries (and spectacularly fails) to beat both the lap times for those cars, in a 697bhp Dodge Charger Hellcat.
It has the power of two pairs of the cars he’s trying to beat, but the tail-happy Charger Hellcat is not a happy beast on a track. Granted, the Toyota/Mazda lap times were set by the extremely handy Randy Pobst, but that doesn’t make the gulf between them (we won’t spoil the result) any less hilarious.
Does this make me want a Hellcat any less? Nope.

I’d take the GT86 tho
Parker be like ‘things I hate about the charger hellcat’
Apparently a Cat from Hell isnt very nimble…..
Imagine the Demon himself
Demon actually handles better, thanks to the 315s all around
Next week
Think we can get Phil running long enough to do a single lap?
Alex Kersten
This should be the at the top … This is GOLD! LMAO xD
When he said “mazda’s engine is barely enough to spin the supercharger of the hellcat” 😂😂😂
Always remember, purity is better than selling your soul to the devil…
Or his cat.
Underrated comment lol
A weekly series of ‘what slow car is a hellcat slower than?’ would do a good job of pummelling the dodge fanboys into submission
Not to come off as a fanboy, but lets face it, a Hellcat(both versions) is not for turning. To me, Dodge built it to show how much power they can make(like the Demon). Kinda like saying “My shlong is bigger than yours.” Would be awesome if they got an ACR suspension package to give it better handling and a huge weight loss.
HELL…..that cat is slow……Sorry :(
Handles like a cat in hell… hence the name HELLCAT
