Here's How You Jump Start A Car Using Nothing But A Jack And Some Rope

Stuck somewhere without jump leads and have a flat battery? Here's an unconventional solution...

This method is something we’ve seen before, and what’s happening is fairly straight forward - the guy here is essentially simulating a ‘bump start’ with a stationary car. Just like in a bump start, the movement of the driven wheel turns the engine over, creating enough compression for it to fire.

There are a few things to bear in mind, though. It’ll only work with a manual gearbox, and if you’re only jacking up one side, you’re going to want a car with an open differential. It’s also - for various and hopefully obvious reasons - not that safe, so you’re probably better off just waiting for recovery. Unless you’re stuck in some Bear Grylls in the desert drinking his own urine kind of situation.

In Portugal we just put it in 2nd gear and then let it roll downhill or (on leveled ground) push it until it picks up a bit of speed and drop the clutch.

How to mess up U-joints in seconds…
Never ever make the wheels turn when the suspension is fully extended, it’s the quickest and easiest way to mess up or break U-joints!!!
You will have a running engine that cannot put the power down and you will be sure to not move at all.
You’d better off trying to jump start the car by yourself, it’s dangerous but can be done.

I think this could be done with a car that have traction control, but somebody needs to be in the driver seat to push the clutch in the right moment.
