Here's The Moment A Red Light Running Cop Wipes Out An Innocent Motorist

Police pursuits are inherently dangerous, so it falls on the cops to use their judgement about how exactly to pursue. This officer makes a serious error as he blasts through a red light and hits a Toyota Corolla

Cops run red lights all the time - it helps them catch bad people and save lives - but it’s on them to slow down and assess the situation before doing so. Unfortunately, this officer in Ocoee, Florida, made a massive error of judgement when he blew through a red light without slowing down, wiping out a Toyota Corrolla in the process.

Officer Chris Bonner was pursuing two armed robbery suspects when the incident occurred, and reports suggest he was travelling 90mph when he crashed. The driver of the Corolla was 26-year-old Yahaira Castro, who suffered serious injuries. Apparently, paramedics pulled her from the wreckage by her broken arms…

The officer has been fined $164 and received four points on his driving license for running the red light, while Castro has confirmed that she is suing the city of Ocoee.

I sure hope that other cop actually stopped and didn’t just continue with the stupid pursuit…

Probably just alerted a nearby ambulance and kept going. Clearly they were in a rush, and too much of one.

Wow, luckily he clipped the front of the Corolla, hat it been a dead Center hit the outcome would’ve been very different for the driver of the Toyota.

the only time a police car, or any emergency vehicle is exempt from that specific traffic law, is when they have their blues-and-twos on and the blaring sirens while in hot pursuit or responding to an emergency. If they’ve got sirens blaring and flashing lights, then you should stay out of their way, but that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t drive with care either.

Right, The cop that hit the corolla was traveling at an incredibly high rate of speed for coming up to a traffic light. Always approach an intersection with some sort of caution, but I understand he was in pursuit.

Exactly. We can run red lights under sirens, but we still have to slow down and treat it like a “give way” sign.

The driver of the Corolla should have stopped to let the police car go.

How do you not see bright flashing lights to the side of you? Get off the phone and use some situational awareness.

He see only the slow cop car coming, the other one simply rush the intersection driving around 55mp/h or more. The cop was verry wrong here, you don’t drive a red intersection like that, nobody will have time to react.
