Here's A Reminder Of How Staggeringly Fast The McLaren 720S Is

At what point do we start calling the McLaren 720S a hypercar? It certainly has the pace to keep up with cars described thus, and it doesn’t need optimal conditions to do so.

In this video from DragTimes, despite getting wheel spin on a “non-prepped surface,” a McLaren 720S has no trouble smashing out a 2.8 second 0-60mph time followed by a 10.2 second quarter-mile, before crossing the half-mile mark at 174mph.

That’s faster than a Porsche 918 Spyder, and quick enough to give McLaren’s own P1 a run for its money. Just how conservative is Woking being with the 650S successor’s power output?

Probably my new favourite McLaren other than the P1

Pretty soon all ‘top end’ supercars will be at hypercar performance, and next gen ‘hypercars’ will have to be something immense. What was it Koenigsegg called the One:1, a Mega Car? And even better, cheap entry level supercars, will have today’s top end perfomance. Who’s excited?

I’m just happy with hot hatch backs these days and I reckon they’re only getting better.

We’re not there yet though, which is what makes the 720S so interesting - McLaren seems to have taken a massive leap forward and left everyone for dust.

That said, if it was me I’d probably rather have the considerably less powerful and less capable Huracan LP580-2, because N/A V10…

Megacar is defined as a car with at least 1 megawatt (1,340 hp) of power.

There are a lot of people believing that 720S is faster than the P1
Although the 720S is one of the best cars ever made according to me, I still struggle to believe that
P1 has more power, weighs less and has crazier aero than the 720S
The LT version of 720S might be as fast as the P1 but until then P1 is the king

Ugh I hate these people who think certain cars are better because when heavily modified they can beat stock supercars (no shit?), they seem to be forgetting that the supercars can also be modified to go faster

McLaren don’t do anything to F1 engines I think. The F1 engine is all Honda, whereas McLaren’s M838T/M840T road car engine is built by McLaren themselves.

so take out the .3 difference in the 1/4 mile and you have a demon that can go around the track.

[no hate on the demon I love that car]

Doesn’t matter if you can’t use it around turns. A camaro ZL1 1LE beat it around Laguna Seca. A muscle car, which people think can’t turn well, beat a car nearly 4 times the price around a track. Hats off to Chevy for achieving that, really.
