Here's What The F90 BMW M5 With An Akrapovic Exhaust Sounds Like

The new AWD M5 is perhaps lacking a little volume from its exhaust, so is fitting aftermarket pipework the answer? We'll let you judge

As we’ve explained before, the current BMW M5 has an unusual exhaust setup. Its manifold evens out the exhaust pulses, making it sounds like a flat-plane crank V8, even though it’s a more conventional cross-plane eight-banger.

It makes a curious yet rather pleasant noise, but it’s not what you’d call loud or brutal. So is it worth fitting aftermarket pipework?

This particular set of cans comes from Akrapovič, a company which OEMs are increasingly turning to for optional sports exhausts. Even the VW Golf R can now be specced with a titanium system built a Slovenian firm from the factory.

But do you think the Akrapovič M5 exhaust is an improvement over stock, and is it better than the Manhart setup we looked at recently? Let us know in the comments.

I dunno, they should’ve tried to make it sound more raspy like the E39 or the E92 M3. Both the F10 and F90 M5s just sound dull imo. AMG does a better job, I think.
