Here's Your Chance To Grab The One And Only Black Maserati MC12
When we dig used cars up from the classifieds, we normally like to go for relatively affordable performance machines. Every so often, we like to share something very special - and very expensive - with you. This time, it's a Maserati MC12, spotted by Carscoops.
Just 50 of these Ferrari Enzo-based supercars were made in order to allow Maserati to enter the FIA GT Championship. An entirely new longtail carbonfibre body was constructed for the car, based on the results of extensive wind tunnel testing.
With 612bhp from the 6.0-litre V12 - also inherited from the Enzo - 0-62mph is dispatched in 3.8 seconds, while the top speed is 205mph. Critical opinion of the road car was mixed, with its ultra long body and lack of rear window making it difficult to manoeuvre. The race programme was a big success, however, with the MC12 clocking up 40 wins and numerous titles in the FIA GT1 series.
What makes this one for sale at Ferrari Newport Beach so special is it's apparently the only one to have been sold from the factory in black. All others have a white/blue colour scheme in tribute to the Maserati Tipo 61 'Birdcage' racer. No price has been listed, but an MC12 was up for sale last year at $1.6 million (£960,000), so don't be expecting a bargain...
