Here's Your First Look At The Tesla Model Y
Here it is: the incoming Tesla Model Y. At least it’s in this image somewhere. Lurking in the shadows.
The above teaser picture - revealed this week at Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting - doesn’t show us much of the company’s future compact SUV, apart from the fact it doesn’t have any door mirrors. Expect those to magically appear by the time of the car’s release, given the current legal requirements of most markets.
On the subject of the car’s release, Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently said we could expect the car to arrive in either 2020 or “late 2019”. The car will be built on an all-new platform in a new facility, with batteries supplied by Gigafactory 1.
Musk expects the car to be even more popular than the Model 3 saloon - a fair assumption given the modern car buyer’s current obsession with all things crossover. He also confirmed at the shareholder meeting that production of Tesla’s long awaited compact saloon is still “definitely” on track to begin in July.
