Honda's New NSX Concept GT Has More Wings On It Than The Red Bull Factory

Insane aero and an engine that could share designs with Honda's new Formula 1 powerplant

This has got to be one of the most mental Hondas you’ve ever seen. It’s the Japanese company’s entry for the 2014 Super GT racing series, where it’s set to compete against the likes of the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT500 before the production NSX even hits the showroom.

Just look at the insane aero all over it: more wings than the Red Bull factory, and more flaps than a pheasant in a bear trap. This thing means business.

All we know - aside from the fact that the chassis has been built to be compatible with DTM racing rules so that it could race in Europe’s premier sports car class - is that it’s set to use just four cylinders.

That’s right, four meagre pots working overtime, backed up by what Honda calls a “racing hybrid system.” But don't crack open the tin of abuse just yet, because the basic premise sounds a lot like the Formula 1 engine Honda is building for McLaren and the 2015 season. The plot thickens…

Although the bodywork shares a few design cues to the NSX concept that we keep seeing in development, Honda says that the Concept-GT is more of a dedicated racer simply based on the NSX idea. Don’t expect it to share too much in common under the skin. Which seems like a shame, but we'll wait and see.
