How Audi Made The Eargasm R8 V10 Plus Video That Killed An Engine

We're given the lowdown on THAT V10 eargasm video (but not how a V10 was destroyed in the process)

You'll remember last month's video of the R8 V10 Plus going full chat on a dyno run. The supercar's back-end and exhaust system were removed so we could hear every little rumble and scream. Lovely.

Yesterday, Audi released another video showing exactly what they meant when they said “Evolution on the outside. Revolution on the inside.”

Filming the noisiest ad in history.

What Audi didn't show, however, was the R8's V10 engine being thrown in the skip after filming. Why? When we quizzed a VAG engineer about the video, he told us that removing the exhausts (great for flames) overheated the engine to the point of terminal mechanical damage. But hey, this being a big PR stunt, the loss of one engine was acceptable considering the likely sales boost they've enjoyed since the video's release.
