How Else Would You Spend The McLaren P1's £866,000 Asking Price?
McLaren has released more drool-worthy information about its anticipated P1, a supercar we'll see in production form at the Geneva motor show next week. We've also been given this batch of new pics, so get ready to change that desktop background.
Here are all the stats:
Price: £866,000Production: 375 unitsTop Speed: 218mph0-62mph: sub 3.0secEngine: V8 + Electric MotorPower: 903bhpWeight: 1400kgGearbox: 7-spd twin-clutch
While this makes for great reading, there are two things to remember: 1) that's a lot of money for a car that can't outrun a Nissan GT-R Nismo to 62mph and 2) the P1 has a lower top speed than it's Macca F1 predecessor which was good for 231mph.
Call me cynical then, but I'm not as excited about the all-new, super-dooper P1 as I think I should be. Which is why I'd spend my (imaginary) £866,000 a little differently.
1. Buy 133 Dacia Sanderos
Top Gear was on to something with that car rugby malarky, so I'd buy 133 Sanderos at £800k (good for 8 teams, plus a few cars left over) and start my own league.
The £66k left in the pot would go on a Lotus Exige S for play and a VW Cross Up for city slicking.
2. Commission an SLS Shooting Brake
The standard 197mph coupe version costs £168,450, so I'd be happy to spend a further £20-30k on a one-off SLS Shooting Brake version, which I could enjoy with more than one mate. The remaining cash would afford me a massive house to put it in.
3. Gumball the crap out of a Phantom
Yeh, I think I'd most like to blow my cash on a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead (circa £300,000) and enter it into the infamous Gumball 3000 , which costs £30,000 to enter. I'd rub shoulders with the likes of David Hasselhoff, Idris Elba (lad!), Travis Pastrana and Dirty Sanchez. The rest of the money would go towards convincing Jodie Kidd (a regular Gumballer) that I'm 'the one'.
4. Buy a Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6
Why not buy Merc's latest 6x6 G63 AMG monster and start a revolution?
So go on then, what would you rather spend your £866k on?
