How Much Faster Can You Make A Porsche 911 GT2 RS With A Tyre Swap?

If ultimate lap times are your goal, you need to be serious about tyres. If, for instance, you have a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, you could stick it on Pirelli P Zero Trofeo Rs. Or you could go for the new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R, a tyre which Porsche itself has used to set lap records at Road Atlanta and Road America.

Alternatively, there is a Goodyear option in the form of the Eagle F1 SuperSport RS. But is it really worth going for over the already very focused Supersport R? That’s what Tyre Reviews decided to find out, using a GT2 RS and Ascari circuit.

You only have to look at a comparison of the tread patterns (above) to understand how much more serious a tyre the Supersport RS is. With less tread cut into the carcass, a lower tread depth from the factory it’s getting on for a slick, and the compound is softer too.

Jon Benson of Tyre Reviews is instantly impressed with the stickier Supersport, calling it “Like a racing tyre for the road.”

The car not only feels better to drive, but it’s also much, much faster. As for how much faster, we won’t spoil the ending, but suffice to say you’ll come away impressed.
