I Built A Lego Ferrari F40 And It's Stupidly Awesome

In recent years, products from Lego have expanded into areas it hadn’t even touched before. Why? Because the Danish company has gotten a lot more savvy when it comes to licensing deals, resulting in everything from Lego Star Wars to Lego Batman and even Lego Harry Potter (yes, really). Of course, the deals that really interest us are the car ones, specifically Ferrari, ever since it was announced there was to be a Lego Creator F40 set.

This excited us greatly, and last month I was able to get my grubby mitts on one of these kits to keep me occupied. Thanks to my butter fingers it took around four hours to build, but the finished product looks incredible and now spends its days making the entrance to CT Towers a little prettier.

You do need to be paying attention when you build this thing; the design is particularly intricate (there’s a hinged engine cover, bonnet, working doors and even pop up headlights) and the whole thing comprises of 1158 pieces. Since I built this late in the evening and I’m a new dad who gets no sleep whatsoever, I did accidentally miss a step or two which meant I had to go back and rectify, pointlessly lengthening the build time.

Despite my own cock ups, it was bloody good fun to put together (check out the time lapse of the build below). The downside? It’s not awfully cheap at £69.00 (€89.99, $99.99), presumably not helped by the fact that Ferrari license probably didn’t come cheap. However, the completed car is just a jolly nice thing to have around, and is far cooler than any regular model F40 could ever hope to be.
