I was wondering if it is better to buy a cold air intake kit or to make one myself?

Buy one.. If you buy the right brand they figured out the ‘perfect’ flow.

Depends on how strapped for cash you are but, buying is the best option.

I’m biased towards building things myself. But most of time it’s better to buy one, unless you get crazy ideas every other weekend like i do and change things up a lot.

Does your car need a CAI? Depending on your vehicle, it may be that you’re already getting what you want, and a CAI will give minimal gains/increase intake sound. Look on forums for your car, chances are there’s a discussion about this.
No trying to burst your bubble, just save you some money :)

Good idea to do some research… I am trying to find a way to get more power out of a 1.6 L accent engine without boosting (reliability and money issues ). :P

Honestly, you’ll be wasting your money. This will get you no discernable power gain on that car - i.e. one that you can actually feel. There are lots of videos on YouTube which test these products and show how worthless they are, so watch a few and make up your own mind. You’re never going to get a significant performance increase from that engine without spending a lot of money. Personally, if I was you I’d spend the time/money on either reducing the weight of the vehicle or buying better tyres. Ultimately if you want to improve performance then you need to improve your power to weight ratio. If it’s not feasible to improve power, you can reduce weight and still improve performance. It also improves cornering and braking whilst reducing the wear on other components such as tyres and brake pads.
