The Idiot Who Sat On A Fence During A Nascar Race Is Going To Jail

A man who climbed up a fence during a Nascar Sprint Cup race at Richmond earlier this year has been sentenced to one year in prison

Remember this? The fan - named James Dennis - who climbed and sat on the safety fence during the Federated Auto Parts 400 Nascar Sprint Cup race earlier this year has been sentenced to one year in prison, with all but one month suspended.

The race, which took place at the Richmond International Raceway in September, went under caution due to the idiotic 53-year-old man. NBC12 reports that he was found guilty of being drunk in public and disorderly conduct. As well as the prison sentence, he will have to pay a $100 fine on each of the counts.

He managed to climb the fence as the nearest security guard was responding to a fight. Dennis sat on top of the safety fence over the track, and was eventually persuaded to climb down by police.

A lieutenant with the police department said after the incident that he told officers it was his birthday and he wanted to be on TV. Dennis later apologised, saying he was “deeply in regret” and added that he climbed the fence to take a selfie with his favourite driver Kevin Harvick. Unfortunately he never got it, as he forgot his phone.
