If You Could Actually Buy The Polestar 1, It'd Cost Around £130,000

The most interesting thing about the new Polestar 1 isn’t necessarily the 592bhp hybrid powertrain, nor is it the carbonfibre body. No - it’s the way you buy one: the cars will be available on a subscription basis only, with a monthly payment covering the depreciation, the insurance and maintenance. Want to buy one outright? Tough.

However, when pushed, Polestar’s Johan Meissner didn’t rule out a conventional purchase entirely, reports Autoblog.

“If you wish to understand the cost of a Polestar 1, purely for competitor comparative reasons, the indicative target price would be in the region of €130,000-150,000 (£116 - 134,000,” he said, adding, “If a customer wanted to purchase the car outright, this is something that we would assess nearer the time.”

So for the right figure it does seem as though Polestar might be willing to budge on its subscription-only mantra. And while the whole Netflix-style setup sounds unusual right now, rest assured: we’ll be seeing a lot more of this sort of thing in the coming years.

For a four cylinder hybrid? No thanks, I’ll stick to a 911 or something more exciting

I don’t get why people bother with the downvotes, it is my opinion

Ikr 😂 I upvoted, because right now electricity is neither practical or eco-friendly (all the coal) so I’d much rather have a 911

Are we going to get errors like netfix too?

“Whoops, something went wrong! Polestar couldn’t connect. Please contact us at Polestar.com/SubscriptionHelp/“

Honestly, that’s not bad, think about it’s competition, BMW i8 and Acura/Honda NSX. Neither competitor gets 150km on electricity. You can disagree with me all you want but I think Polestar is the best deal here. And for your information, it’s gonna be more like £115K, not £130K.

The polestar won’t be anywhere near as good as those two. Majority of power going to front axle.

Is it just me or Volvos or cars based on Volvos still look like beautiful bricks with wheels?

Wait, correct me if i’m wrong, but isn’t “Monthly subscription based model” just a fancy way of calling it a lease? Seems like marketing wordplay to me
