If You Own An Audi, Amazon Will Deliver Parcels Directly Into Your Car's Boot
Picture the scene: you’re a loaded Audi owner and you’ve just ordered new coilovers for your MX-5 project car (because you’re awesome). Unfortunately you’re at work, however, and can’t take delivery of your new parts because your cat can’t open the front door. Bummer!
Luckily, Audi and Amazon have thought this one through, because they’re testing a new service where parcels are delivered straight to the boot of your expensive Audi (via DHL) using a one-time access code that opens the rear only.
The pilot scheme is being trialled by Amazon Prime subscribers in Munich who must agree to have their cars tracked by GPS (otherwise DHL personnel won’t be able to find your car). Once at the car, the delivery person will receive an authorisation code that works only once and that is valid for a prescribed time. Packages and letters could also be taken out of a car’s boot to be taken for delivery. If all goes well, the plan is to roll the scheme out to older cars too.
Swedish car maker Volvo has already trialled a similar scheme and will be implementing it in its home country soon.
