If You Thought You'd Never Consider A Citroen C1, Read This
If you're a young driver, then you’ll undoubtedly have come across the fabled 'black box'.
Some of you may have had one fitted to reduce the cost of your insurance premiums, and I’m sure an equal number will have bluntly refused to even consider the idea given the fact that it enables your insurers to effectively limit how and when you drive.
Citroën won’t be giving buyers of their crowd-sourced C1 Connexion a choice in the matter, however, as it has just become the first car to be fitted with a telematics black box as standard.
The long and short of it is that you'll qualify for free insurance provided you’re 19-years-old and have a two-year No Claims Discount (NCD). Even without a NCD, it’ll only cost you £950 for a year’s cover. Renewal premiums will be calculated based on how you’ve driven over the first 12-months of ownership, too.
The downsides? You’re tied to one of Citroën’s financing packages, and have to use their own insurance broker - Citroën Insure. While it’d be good to have the freedom to buy the car outright and approach other insurance companies, we doubt you’d find a better deal elsewhere.
The big downside is that you’ll end up with a 1.0-litre Citroën with 'Scarlet Red' detailing. But hey, you can’t have it all.
