The Introduction Of The New Skoda Fabia Means The Sad Death Of The Mighty vRS

Skoda has officially taken the wraps off its new Fabia model. It looks bang up to date with the rest of the range, but is unlikely to feature a hot vRS version, which is a shame

This is the new third-generation Skoda Fabia, which has been unveiled by the manufacturer ahead of the car’s official reveal at the Paris motor show in October. As you can see from the official images, the new car features the same design language and crisp lines that you’ll see on the Octavia and Rapid models.

As is the norm with new versions of existing models, the third-gen Fabia is bigger, wider, has more interior space than before and comes with a line-up of cleaner, more frugal engines.

Fitted under the bonnet of the new Fabia will be a choice of petrol and diesel engines, including a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder and a 1.2-litre four-pot unit (the latter will be tuned to varying outputs up to around 109bhp). A super-frugal 1.4-litre diesel is expected to return over 90mpg on average. Gearbox choices for the new Fabia will include manual and DSG.

The more powerful vRS model is thought to have been discontinued so will likely not appear in the new car. Which is a shame; the second-gen Fabia vRS was powered by a peppy 1.4 TSI with 178bhp, while the first-gen car featured a 1.9-litre TDI engine with 129bhp and a considerable torque figure of 230lb ft, which gave the vRS superb in-gear shove.

Prices for the new Fabia are expected to start from £10,000 and the car will go on sale at the beginning of 2015.
