Jag F-Type Is Stepping Up To The 911 With A Manual And AWD
The Jaguar F-Type is answering the only complaint that proper petrolheads have levelled against it, by getting a manual gearbox. Motor Trend's Jonny Lieberman revealed the news on Twitter, also confirming that an all-wheel drive model is on the way.
When the F-Type was unveiled, its gorgeous styling had us all hooked, but the fact it only came with an eight-speed auto 'box was slightly off-putting to enthusiasts. Unfortunately, although keyboard warriors often complain about the decline of stick shifters, they aren't the ones splashing the cash on them. Everyone with money wants an auto, so Jag focussed on getting sales out the door before developing the one nobody will buy.
As for the all-wheel drive side of things, this is probably just an attempt to steal more sales from Porsche, namely the Carrera 4S. Although the F-Type's ridiculously tail-happy nature is one of its most appealing aspects, the extra grip and security from AWD should allow for even more power in the future, as well as stopping rich folk from spinning off the road in winter.
Both of these updates are great, but to be honest as long as it keeps sounding as incredible as it does, we'll be happy.
