The Jaguar C-X75 Hugs Trees On The Way To 220mph

The Jaguar C-X75 Prototype is a technological marvel. Created by engineers from both Jaguar and Williams, it will sadly not enter production, but act as a showcase and research project for future technology.

The C-X75 churns out a whopping 502bhp from a turbocharged and supercharged 1.6-litre petrol engine, revving all the way to a stratospheric 10,000rpm. On top of that, 2 electric motors add a further 390bhp, to give a combined output of 850bhp through all 4 wheels.

That monstrous power is kept under control by sophisticated aerodynamics, including a deployable rear spoiler, which create 200kgs of downforce at top speed, while the carbon composite monocoque chassis keeps the car light and strong. What that means is this road-legal Batmobile will sprint to 100mph in less than 6 seconds, while emitting less than 89g/km of CO2.

That's Prius beating emissions in a car that'll outrun almost anything on the road. Furthermore, the electric motors give a range of around 37 miles, so if you can resist the urge to floor it then most journeys won't cost you a penny.

We're excited by the fact that Jaguar claims this car features 'F1-inspired engine technology.' While this obviously refers to their work with Williams engineers, the 1.6-litre engine is conveniently the size of next season's powerplant - could this be the start of a Jaguar-branded Formula 1 engine? With the new regulations focusing on economy - the C-X75's forte - it wouldn't be a wild assumption to make.

Whether they take it to F1 or not, the C-X75 Prototype is a beautifully crafted, brilliantly engineered supercar. Now we just have to persuade Jaguar to sell it.
