Jaguar F-Type Looks Like A Boss
With Jaguar still a part of Ford's struggling Premiere Auto Group way back when, the project was axed for budget and market concerns, until it popped up again 11 years later as the C-X16. With Jaguar/Land Rover in much better health under Tata's care, the 2-seater finally hits shelves in 2013. And it is gorgeous.
Of course, we expect a Jaguar to be gorgeous - otherwise, why would people buy them? But this new compact 2-seater Jaguar convertible is a sign of progress at Jag - aluminum chassis, choice of supercharged 6 or 8-cylinder power, smaller and more compact.
Like the C-X16 concept, the F-Type has a unique shape - curved at the front, with a relatively flat waist line leading to a pinched-in rear end and thin, horizontal tail lights. The pictures show a red model with larger wheels and quad-exit exhaust, as well as a silver model with smaller wheels and dual center-exit exhaust, shades of the original E-Type. The quad exhausts will likely be on the R, much like the XKR and XFR - but to our eyes, the center exits look better. Decisions, decisions!
We also get our first glimpse of the F-Type's interior, which features a set of very highly bolstered sports seats, as well as an R8-esque grab handle to the right of the centre stack. Conspicuous in it's absence is Jag's nifty round-dial gear selector, with a traditional shift lever taking it's place.
The F-Type is shaping up to be a killer car, but we'll have to wait until the Paris motor show to get full details on the chassis, drivetrain, and options. Regardless of the stats on paper, it's great that Jag is finally - after a dozen years! - fulfilling it's promise of a lightweight 2-seat sports car.
