The XF-R is rumored to be the first recipient of Jaguar's first all-new engine since the AJV8 debuted with the XK8 coupe in 1997. In R trim, the 5.0L direct-injected 32 valve V8 will be fitted with the traditional Rootes-style Eaton supercharger, which will put an estimated 500 horsepower to the ground through the rear wheels via Jag's ZF-designed 6-speed automatic transmission. While the XF-R isn't rumored to have a mechanical-style limited slip differential, expect at least an electronic brake-lock differential to keep things somewhat in check.
While the final styling cues are still to be seen, you can tell Jaguar doesn't much bother with extensive camouflage for their prototypes. The XF-R is sporting a tasty looking set of quad exhaust pipes, some big 19" wheels, and other typical accoutrement expected of this category of car.
It's good to see further development and expansion of the XF line occurring. I personally was worried the XF project would whither after the Jaguar division was transferred to their new Indian holding company, Tata. I'm glad to see this isn't the case - the XF has a fantastic chassis and tons of potential - both as a performance car, and potential to bring a totally new kind of clientele into Jaguar showrooms that previously wouldn't have considered the brand. A tightly tuned 500 horsepower sports sedan seems like a good place to start!
