Over at CAR , new images and spy video of Jaguar's upcoming redesign of the range topping XJ have been captured. While heavily camoflauged, the pictures still enable us to see certain details that offer a look at the direction this ultra sedan will take in it's upcoming redesign.

I think Auto Express has offered the best, most accurate interpretation of the Jaguar XJ in it's rendering. The XF is being designed by Jaguar's head Design Director Ian Callum, also responsible for the recent XK and XF.

As such, expect it's design to mirror those vehicles very closely. The current XJ is the last Jaguar being produced to still wear the retro style of the previous generation of Jaguars.

As the top of the line model, it will be the ultimate expression of the new design language. Out with retro and in with a new, crisp Jaguar style.

Above is another interpretation of the XJ offered by Top Speed, although in my opinion Auto Express has hit much closer to the mark.

Before the economic crisis hit, it was rumored that the XJ would offer huge leaps in interior technology, moving to an entirely touchscreen interface for cabin controls. I haven't heard anything about this since, details on the XJ have been pretty scarce.

While the current XJ is a great vehicle, the traditional Jaguar style has been getting old and buyers have moved on to other vehicles in it's segment.

Jaguar needs something new to attract buyers at this level; it is essential for Jaguar to have a competitive high-end competitor at the top of it's lineup. I think they're taking the right moves to do just that with the new XJ.

If done right, even in this economy it should only continue the upswing being experienced at the brand, helping to usher in the move to profitability. We're supposed to see the XJ later this year, although the exact show is unknown at this point.
