A Koenigsegg Agera RS Just Clocked A Record-Breaking 277.9mph

A two-way run in Nevada looks to have crowned the Agera RS as the fastest car in the world

Remember Koenigsegg’s record-breaking 0-400-0 run? Seems that was just a warm up, as Koenigsegg has now bagged the speed record to rule them all. Yep, it looks like the Agera RS is now the world’s fastest production car.

Details are limited at this stage (the Swedish supercar firm is promising more information in due course), but we do know that the 277.9mph figure is an average taken from two runs, which means this will qualify for a Guinness World Record. A record achieved comfortably - the RS went over 10mph faster than the current holder, the Bugatti Veyron Supersport.

The run was done on a closed road near Pahrump, Nevada, which would explain why we saw a bunch of Koenigseggs in the area when driving the new Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk on a nearby press trip. As with the 0-400-0 run, it was Koenigsegg factory driver Niklas Lilja behind the wheel - he’s clearly a man with adamantium-spec balls.

We can’t wait to see the footage…

But HOW “factory” was it? The 0-400-0 stunt was made by an odd mix of car and engine.

It looks like the same car, it’s completely stock? You can choose to get the One:1 engine tune , just like you can choose between engines in all other cars. It’s almost exactly the same engine though, more or less only light valve train and higher redline. Still, 100% stock.

Factory Agera RS with engine upgrade offered by Koenigsegg and a removable rollcage,
Same car with the same setup from the “0-400-0 stunt”

To be honest, Koenigsegg is so low-production that they’ll put any engine in any chassis if you ask them and pay them.

And it’s not like they worked constantly for 7 years trying their hardest to build a car that could outrun it. Plus, for a long time they haven’t really been able to test the top speed of their cars because all those tracks are owned by Volkswagen.

I wish Buggatti would release a hardcore singleseater with the Chiron engine to go as fast as possible.
But this will probably never happen.

No. Two Chiron engines. Because 16 cylinders aren’t enough.

Yeah, it would be cool to see a car with similar philosophy as their earlier cars. However, the chiron engine probably wouldn’t be ideal in a hardcore racer, a lot of its focus is on luxury and a smooth powerband, not on speed, acceleration, and handling

447 km/h, why the hell couldn’t they go 3 km/h faster

11/05/2017 - 00:57 |

They probably did 450 in one direction - 447 is the average across both directions. I reckon they could easily pass it, but at the cost of downforce for track lap times.

The one thing the Bugatti brand was bought to do. Make the fastest cars in the world. Well, didn’t really go exactly to plan…

Bugatti’s are (or at least should be, a lot of rich people just buy them because they’re fast) a niche market, focused on beauty, overall speed on a track and in a straight line, and much different from a koenigsegg, tons and tons of comfort and luxury. In my opinion, they aren’t missing their purpose, bugatti is doing just fine at that, and I would say that their cars are lightyears ahead of koenigsegg in luxury.

It’s cooler in the lower price bracket of Sports qcars. Mainly because average people can actually somewhat afford a ZL1 or hellcat versus a 3 million + hyper-car. With Hyper cars I’d expect insane speeds and power based on the price alone.
