Land Rover Has Launched A Tough Smartphone With Two-Day Battery Life
Fair warning: this article contains pictures of a hipster beard. Land Rover and the Bullitt Group have announced a rugged new smartphone designed for life outdoors.
Thanks to a 4000mAh battery and a simple five-inch HD screen, the Explore handset can run for two full days, says Land Rover, even with the screen on constantly. Battery life can be redoubled to four days of constant use with an Adventure Pack add-on.
If you drop it while crossing a shallow river it’s no problem. The Explore is fine with being under water, to a depth of 1.8 metres (6ft). That goes for salt water as well as fresh. You can still use the screen as normal even when it’s wet, or when you’re wearing gloves.
Extreme temperatures are no problem; the phone can deal with Arctic cold and desert heat without breaking a sweat. It can brush off vibration and thermal shock, but no specific mention is made of it being able to cope with being dropped, so we have to assume it’s as vulnerable to screen breakages as most other handsets.
Lost in the wilderness? Easy for the Explore. It has its own off-road mapping, its own weather service data, its own compass and an SOS light. It’s the Swiss Army knife of phones. You can, of course, buy a host of accessories like bike mounts and extra batteries.
It’s due for a full reveal at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 26 February. It goes on sale soon after, with a UK price of £599.

Hey! It’s just as versitile as a real Land Rover. This looks good
Oh dear, the price is like a Land Rover too.
Hopefully you won’t have to put the bonnet up as much either.
…but why?
Well if CAT can make a smartphone I see no reason why Land Rover wouldn’t.
Plus if Tesla did this, they would have more money to fix some of the production problems. I mean they already build tablets
If Tesla makes a phone, you’ll have to wait half a year for one after buying it lol
I never really understood the point behind these phones. If you just get a normal smartphone and put a protection case around it, you get the same.
And 2 days of battery life with a 5” screen isn’t impressive at all.
I hate when they use days to talk about battery life. My battery bearly survives the day, yet when I gave my mom my phone she got 3 days from charge to charge…
Dude, I have to charge my year-old S7 twice a day just to get to nightfall. I know people with iPhones that have had to have portable chargers surgically attached to themselves.
I get 2 days of battery life easily with my Asus Zenfone 3 Max. It has a 5.2 inch HD screen and only cost USD $100. That price is amazing for a new phone running the newest android and metal casing
Yeah. You can basically get 3 days of battery life with that.
Couldn’t you pretty much say the same thing about pretty much every phone, though? I mean, they’re all sort of gimmicks, some people are just willing to spend more on said gimmick than others.
Edit: Actually, no. What I stated is kind of irrelevant and I apologise for that. Ignore this, I guess?
Still better than the iPhone with no headphone jack.
The only reason people bought expensive phone’s are in the name brand itself.

Y’all want a regular android smartphone with some plastic “strength’ add-ons and pay wayy more?
LR: We’ve gotcha
Who will buy one?
The ultimate smartphone???!?
Eh, it’s decent if you’re one if those outdoorsy types, but I’ll stick with my HTC U11, thanks.
Also, how much RAM and what SoC would one be getting for their hard-earned £599? 🤔
