The Last Ever Top Gear As We Know It Airs Tonight At 20:00 BST

Tonight’s episode of Top Gear as we know it will likely be the most highly rated in the show’s history, eclipsing 8.5m viewers when Lewis Hamilton made an appearance. The reason? Tonight is the last night that we get to see the trio together in the current format. Then, everything changes.

Chris Evans will be the new star of Top Gear, alongside two as yet unknown presenters. As for Clarkson, Hammond and May, they’ll have their own show, which I’m sure will blow new Top Gear into the weeds. But who knows…

Tonight’s episode of Top Gear (BBC 2 at 20:00 BST, running for 75 minutes) will be an emotional one for us fans to watch. According to Clarkson in his column in the Sun, he said: “BBC Two is screening an edition of Top Gear cobbled together from two films that were made before I was fired.”

While these words don’t exactly inspire confidence in us viewers, I know that you’ll be tuning in, and I’m sure that many of us will be leaking blinker fluid when the curtain closes on 13 wonderful years!
