One major criticism of GT Sport when it was released in October last year was the lack of content. After all, one of the joys of past Gran Turismo games was collecting a multitude of cars (who doesn’t want to collect 50 different variants of Mazda MX-5?!), but with just 162 cars at launch, GT Sport’s roster was somewhat underwhelming.

Since then, however, Polyphony Digital has been trying to rectify that with a series of updates. The latest 1.11 update has just gone live and adds a bunch of new stuff including new circuits, more GT League events and 10 new cars. Sure, it’s still miles off Forza Motorsport-levels of choice, but it’s a start.

Heading the list are a couple of Gran Turismo classics - the Dodge Viper GTS and Toyota Supra RZ. Despite being one of the series’ most popular cars, the Supra didn’t even get a premium model with full interior in either GT5 or GT6, so the decision to add it to GT Sport is sure to be a popular one. In fact, Toyota is well represented in the update, with the classic 2000GT and the FT-1 Concept also making an appearance.

A brace of classic sports-prototypes which first showed up in GT5 also return, with the unraced Jaguar XJ13 and gorgeous swooping lines of the Daytona 24 Hours-winning Ferrari 330P4 from 1967 now in the game (appropriate, given that the actual Daytona 24 Hours takes place this weekend!). That’s not the only Ferrari either - the 1976 512BB also makes a comeback.

The pack is rounded out by a trio of legendary supercars - the McLaren F1, Lamborghini Diablo GT and the previous-generation Ford GT. Here’s the full list:

  • 1966 Jaguar XJR13
  • 1967 Ferrari 330P4
  • 1967 Toyota 2000GT
  • 1976 Ferrari 512BB
  • 1994 McLaren F1
  • 1997 Toyota Supra RZ
  • 2000 Lamborghini Diablo
  • 2002 Dodge Viper GTS Coupe
  • 2006 Ford GT
  • 2014 Toyota FT-1 Concept

It’s not only the 10 new cars and the four additional GT League events that come with this update, though - there are also some new circuits. The ultra-high-speed Monza circuit is back with two layouts - one with chicanes, the other without, both of which should be perfect for stretching the legs of all that new metal.

The fictional (and completely brilliant) Lake Maggiore circuit is also getting three new layouts which can also be driven in reverse (the direction, not the gear, unless you really want a challenge).

The update is out now and at 3.8GB, it’s a sizeable one. So make sure you get downloading well ahead of your next GT Sport session…

Trying to decide what Toyota’s plan was here. Either they:
-Removed their road cars from games so they’d build hype and make extra money when they came back in half a year
-Are only putting them in DLC’s (for more money)
-Are only putting in them in games with Japanese devs (as mentioned below)

GT Sport needs more crappy cars, in there. I miss the Mazda Demios of old.

I love when racing games have a lot of streetcars and crappy cars. For me, it is no fun racing LMP cars and GT3’s.
