This Lexus V8-Powered Jeep Wrangler Looks Like Hilarious Fun

Stick a 1UZ V8 in a lifted Jeep Wrangler, and fun will follow - as this video proves!

Explaining his potentially ‘sacrilegious’ decision to put a Lexus engine in a Jeep, the uploader says “1UZs are everywhere and cheap. We can get 1UZs, including VVT-i models for about $180 with PCM & harness.” And as a bonus, they clearly sound good with some unrestrictive pipework!

I think this guy really likes the sound of his rev-limiter.

It’s generally an American engine in a Japanese car

Because it doesn’t change the spirit of the car. Some cars have very high revving engines, like the RX-7 or others. Now swapping an LS motor there, wich has a “low” redline is akward and kills the essentials of the car. In this case, they swapped in a low revving japanese V8 used only on mostly american market focused cars. That doesn’t change the spirit of the car.
However, I don’t like swapping between coutries or even brands on the engine swaps. I would swap in a modern SOHC or if avaliable DOHC american V8 (and if possible Hemi (cuz Dodge-Jeep))

If it wasn’t a rare American car I would happily stick a jap engine in it would be unique and awesome.

Why do so many people have built up rigs with open diffs? its pointless

They should install lockers

the yj they built only has a stock dana 30 in the front, with bigger tires and that much power, a locker would just break the hell out of that axle. but the 8.8 in the rear could easily handle a locker.

This guy looks as though he had to “wrangle” with the wheel in order to stay in control…
