By now, Londoners will undoubtedly be familiar with the multitude of be-stickered BMWs currently flitting about the East-End and conspicuously flying down deserted “Games Lanes” past hapless punters and steely-eyed cabbies alike - all to a chorus of callous cussing and extended middle fingers.
Now though, not only will the Bimmers be ferrying officials and athletes to and from venues, but also javelins, shots and hammers within the Olympic stadium itself. BMW’s 3000-vehicle strong fleet has grown by three with the start of the athletics, to include metre-long electric MINIs capable of carrying up to 8kg.
The mini MINIs (a quarter of the size of a normal MINI), which feature 10bhp electric motors and heavy-duty shocks to cope with the weight, carry athletic equipment from the field to the throwing area, ready for the next large, Albanian woman to hurl whatever it is down-field.
Is this another example of the corporate Olympics, or a deft PR move by BMW? Let us know what you think in the comments.
