Hot on the heels of Lotus’ Hyper-SUV Electre reveal last year, the company has announced its answer to the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S. The Emeya is an all-electric GT and in its top spec is said to be capable of 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds thanks to a dual motor configuration that delivers 905 hp and 726 lb ft of torque.

CEO of the Lotus Group, Feng Qingfeng says, “Bringing together our rich heritage with intelligent performance and the latest cutting-edge technologies, we’re pushing the boundaries for how a luxury electric vehicle should look and handle– making it truly for the drivers.”

With this in mind, it’s fitted with an air suspension system that has sensors capable of analysing the road 1000 times a second to adjust the ride accordingly. If you’re lucky enough to live near a DC charger that can pump out electricity at 350kW, the Emeya can add 93 miles of range in five minutes or top up to 80 per cent in under 20 minutes.

Vice-President of Design, Ben Payne says, “This is a Lotus like you have never seen before. We’ve built on everything Lotus has achieved so far to create a luxury performance car for the drivers, designed to inspire confidence, exhilarate with raw emotion and pure joy – connecting them to the road.”

An active front grille, rear diffuser and spoiler all combine with a low centre of gravity to achieve what Lotus calls a ‘hyperstance’. Essentially the car should be impressively stable and despite a heavy battery should stick to the road well. Pricing and further specs have yet to be revealed but production is expected to begin in 2024.
