The LR Discovery Vision Concept Is An Epic Off-Road Machine

This is the Discovery Vision Concept, Land Rover's way of showing the world that it can create an urban bus and off-road champion in one neat package.

Although LR is championing the new Disco's 'multi-lifestyle' versatility, it's all about the off-road tech for us. In a tight spot or particularly rough terrain there's a Laser Referencing tool, which senses obstacles and terrain to allow the driver to confidently push ahead. These lasers can even analyse the ground beneath water, rendering a contour map on the high definition screens.

As well as all those lasers is the Transparent Bonnet that was revealed last week, which uses video cameras to display the terrain beneath the bonnet on a head-up display attached to the windscreen. And if you're still not confident, even with all that help, Remote Control Drive lets you manoeuvre the car from the outside.

The interior is lavished in easy-wash premium leather, so traipsing your muddy boots into the car won't be such a worry. For the quintessentially British feel there's wood veneer on the floors and instrument panel, as well as tweed accessories, which should make you feel like you belong hunting pheasants with The Royal Family.

For the family-centric city dwellers, the Disco Concept gets a number of features that'll make the commute more comfortable. The new Human-Machine Interface (which sounds like something out of an 80s sci-fi movie) is a multimedia system that will be central to a number of features; you can control the new laser headlights, the layout of the seating and make video calls between passengers - using hand gestures to control it all.

The new Discovery is set to enter production in 2015.
