Ludicrous Toyota Supra Rumour Mill Continues To Turn As 400bhp Twin-Turbo V6 Is Suggested
Want more from the constant stream of Toyota Supra rumours? Good news: we have yet another tasty morsel for you to sink your teeth into.
This time, the claims are from ‘Mag-X’, a Japanese publication that reckons we can expect a new twin-turbo V6 from Lexus under the bonnet of the new Supra, good for 400bhp and 300lb ft before you even factor in the anticipated hybrid system. Including a little electric boost, it could even be good for as much as 500bhp.
What’s interesting is this contradicts the last Supra engine rumour we heard, which claimed the car will use BMW internal combustion power with Toyota hybrid systems. As a reminder, the new Supra is one half of a joint venture between Toyota and BMW that’ll also produce a ‘Z5’.
So, if the Lexus engine rumour is true, it’ll mean the Supra and Z5 will each get their own engine, since a V6 in a BMW would be pretty much the devil’s work. That’d make the Z5 and Supra cousins even more exclusive from one another than previously thought: already, we’re looking at a tin top Toyota vs a BMW cabriolet, and it’s even been suggested the length of each may be different thanks to a flexible platform.
So, any guesses for what the next Supra rumour will be? Make your suggestions in the comments, serious or otherwise!

Plot twist. They swap the motor for an LS…
You win
Plot twist. They announced to use a S55B30 on the Supra.
Plot twist. Somebody swaps the LS for a 2JZ
Hybrid ls swap. Thats an interesting thought just put into my head.
Plot twist: It’s actually not a Supra.
Will have twin turbo and engine will be called GTE at the end to signify it’s turbocharged? Or maybe they’ll just name the engine KZ since the JZ series is a straight six, maybe they’re gonna make a new nomenclature but will add GTE and JZ to the back to pay homage to the old models just like what Nissan did with the R35 GT-R’s engine, the VR38DETT, the “DETT” designation pays homage to the RB26DETT. I think…
Dett stands for dohc efi twin turbo
DETT, D= double overhead cam E= electronic injection TT= twin turbo, that’s nissan code. Toyota code reads as 2jz-gte 2= second generation, jz= jz family, g= wide angle valve double overhead cam, t = turbo and e= electronic injection
TT meant twin turbo like the singles were just one T ergo the RB25DET or SR20DET
MOOOOOOREEEE POWERRR! USEEEEEE V8!
As long as it is rwd and fast I’m Happy
Im glad it actually resembles the old Supra… unlike some successors
400HP and 300lb.ft promises a high RPM engine. And considering it has twin turbo it probably is a small engine < 3 litre. And that means there is not much extra in there.
Doubt it, what you’ve described is a 2JZ-GTE engine which is probably the most highly tuneable standard engine
This is actually bad news because the engine is unlikely to be very tunable
#bringthe2jzback
which is why the MK4 Supra will be prefered by tuners still :) Certainly me personally this Supra coming out doesn’t effect my dream of owning a MK4 Supra and modifying the hell out of it
#2jzLivesMatter
Boo! It should be a straight 6, like a proper Jay Z engine. Or 2JZ engine.
Worst case scenario: Prius engines, producing 122hp xD
It would be able to compete with the brz at that point
Hope the engine is called 3JZ-GTE
me too
I hope not, because it won’t do it justice. The 1JZ and 2JZ are just from a completely different time. A modern engine would be nothing like them, It’s like comparing the R35 to the R34 or R33, completely different.
