The Magnum G60 Is A Super-Rare VW Corrado Shooting Brake That’ll Cost You $50k
Is there a cooler body style than that of the shooting brake? We don’t think so, but in the last few decades the format has been criminally underused by manufacturers. An exception to that rule could have come from VW in the form of the car you see here: the Magnum Sport Kombi, but it wasn’t to be.
This brilliant oddity came about when the German manufacturer commissioned a firm called Marold Automobili GmbH to turn the Corrado coupe into a shooting brake, and it proceeded to create two gloriously boxy prototypes. Both were built with the supercharged ‘G60’ four-cylinder engine, giving 158bhp and a 0-60mph time of just over eight seconds. The plan was to follow these two up with a limited production run, something that never happened.
Happily, the pair of prototypes weren’t just stuffed into the corner of a museum, and both have just come up for sale via Long Island dealer Lux Sport. Both are wearing Borbet rims, one with five spoke examples, and the other with a more BBS-style look. The former car is showing 13,000 kilometres on the clock, and the latter just 8000.
Want one of these unusual pieces of motoring history? You’d better have a decent chunk of disposable income ready - both are up for $49,995 apiece.

I have a feeling that those are either going to end up in some collection and never see the road again, or they’ll “die” in some showroom when the owner tries to immediately sell them again for even more money (and those are still Corrados, so that may be a little hard).
well they allmost ended in a scrapyard some day. It was pretty much impossible for the owner at the time to get a license with these cars. And i think they guy was from the us and you cant import cars that are not legal or something whatever. The story is all on the internet.
From rear angle I thought it’s Polo
Those wheels in the first two pictures look a lot like Volvo’s Gemini (not saying they are)
They do look like it yeah! I think they are Borbet A’s
They are ‘Borbet A’ wheels! ;)
Who else noticed the Audi 80 rear lights

Looks really good with it, I think the car really goes together… wish they had made a production run!
Yes me too, I noticed it at first sight! ;)

Yes, they are in fact 80 rear lights! ;)
I would rather buy a Renault 5 Turbo 2 for that money…
Me too. Unfortunately I didn’t have the 80.000€ for the one I found. Got a normal R5 1.1 instead (with less rust and miles though)
That rear looks like its stolen from old Astra…
