Martini Racing Edition Porsche 911 S: Vulgar And Ostentatious Or Massively Cool?

To celebrate its return to Le Mans, Porsche has splashed the iconic Martini livery over 80 of these special-edition 911s. What do you think of the results?

With Porsche competing in the top category of the Le Mans 24 Hours for the first time since 1998, Audi recently chose to make a cheeky video to mark the occasion. Porsche’s approach to celebrating the return isn’t quite so light-hearted; instead, Stuttgart has created the ‘Martini Racing Edition 911.’

Based on the 911 S, it wears the famous Martini Racing stripes that adorned many of Porsche’s previous Le Mans efforts, and countless other race and rally cars. It’s available in white or black, and other than the livery, it’s also set apart from the standard S with a new front apron and a fixed rear spoiler.

The oily bits are unchanged: you get the same 3.8-litre flat-six as the S, capable of 400bhp. With the PDK dual-clutch gearbox (sorry, no manual) you’ll be whisked from 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds. It’ll go on sale in Europe later this month, and the rest of the world later in the year.

The thing is, the Martini livery may look great on a race car, but on a road car, you could acuse it of maybe being a tad conspicuous. We can’t help but think that you might feel like a bit of a berk if you were driving around in one of these things every day.

With that in mind, we want your opinion. Get voting!
