Max Verstappen Went From 16th To 3rd At The End Of The Brazil GP And It Was Awesome

The highlight of the rain-hit Brazilian Grand Prix was easily Red Bull driver Verstappen's stunning drive through the field in the latter stages

After multiple red flags and numerous safety cars at today’ rain-hit Brazilian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton took victory ahead of Nico Rosberg and Max Verstappen.

That keeps the title race ahead until the final round at Abu Dhabi, but what we’re more interested in is how Red Bull driver Verstappen even got to third: 14 laps later, he was in 16th.

After a gamble on intermediate tyres didn’t pay off, Verstappen was forced to pit for full wets from fifth, putting him way down the order. He benefited from several drivers ahead pitting shortly after emerging from the pit land, but still had lots of work to do, cutting through the field and claiming a sensational third.

Here are some highlights from what is easily the drive of the season:

That was the greatest drive I have seen in my time of following F1. There have been many great chargers, but this 19 year old is staggering. I was furious at him in Mexico, but 8 time driver of the day in 16 races with Red Bull is staggering. Absolutely love how he is willing to test and try different things, as opposed to just waiting for late braking or something similar. And of course that amazing save to top it off. The direct opposite to Rosberg, who, sure is a great driver, but my god is that man dull to watch!

He forced Vettel of the track. In my opinion that’s a 5sec penalty. So he would be 4th and Perez would be 3rd

Nah, it doesn’t even warrant a look from the stewards, that’s just good hard racing (and I’m a Vettel fan)

One thing that I noticed during the race was how he was testing grip off the racing line while behind the safety car. He went wide through corners at slow speeds over the course of multiple laps, offline and most importantly, on a less slick surface. Then when he needed to drop the hammer, he already had all the lines with grip planned out
