McLaren Is Ditching The 12C, Because The 650S Is So Awesome

McLaren has announced it is ending production of the 12C, thanks to the success of the 650S - its natural successor.

The 650S moves the game on from the 12C, and McLaren has around six months worth of orders in the pipeline. This, along with the sold out P1, means that finances are in great health at Woking, so this "natural evolution of our model line-up" was not unexpected.

Current 12C owners will get a free tech upgrade from June, with McLaren retro-fitting new parts such as Active Aero software, a drag reduction system and an upgrade to the infotainment system.

Although it still seems fresh, the 12C has been around for three years, and in that time supercar tech has moved on. The 650S provides an answer for that, taking what's great about the 12C and modernising it. The 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 gets power bumped up to 641bhp from 616bhp, allowing it to hit 62mph in 3 seconds on its way to 207mph.
