The McLaren Senna GTR Is A £1 Million Track-Only Aero Fest
The McLaren Senna isn’t a car for the faint hearted. It produces nearly 800bhp from its twin-turbo V8, weighs just 1198kg, has a race car-esque suspension setup and generates an astonishing 800kg of downforce. But, this is not the Senna’s final form: McLaren has also cooked up a GTR version.
Most of the car has been left alone - it was already bonkers enough - but what has been changed is significant. Firstly, the tyres: since this Senna isn’t a road car, it can wear Pirelli Slick tyres. The double wishbone suspension as been revised, too.
Power from the 4.0-litre engine has been bumped to “at least” 814bhp, and it now sends its power rewards via a “race-style transmission.” And finally, the aero package is even more aggressive than the road car’s thanks in part to a much larger front splitter and a bigger rear diffuser which juts out of the back of the car considerably further than before.
The result? 1000kg of downforce. Yep, a whole tonne of lift-reduction. Also, we can’t help but think the added aero anger and the livery of the Geneva show car makes the Senna’s awkward, function-led proportions just work, somehow.
Woking says that due to the changes made, the GTR will be capable of clocking “the quickest McLaren circuit lap times outside Formula 1.” Although we do feel compelled to point out that Fernando Alonso’s latest F1 machine isn’t going all that fast right now…
75 of these GTRs will be built as a follow-up to the 500 road cars, the latter batch having sold out before the Senna even launched.
The price for this version? £1 million a pop…
