McLaren Will Now Sell You A Stiffer, Harder 570GT
Bear with us on this one. McLaren will now sell you a harder, sharper version of a softer, more compliant version of a detuned hard, sharp sports car derived from a full-fat flagship sports car that the company doesn’t sell anymore.
It’s amazing what bizarre shenanigans car makers can sometimes get away with. Either that or it’s amazing how silly buyers of expensive cars can be. Whichever it is, McLaren has stiffened and tautened the 570GT with the optional S Handling Pack, which gives the softer, more everyday-friendly GT the dynamic feel of the 570S.
The upgrade pack has stiffer springs by 15 per cent at the front and 10 per cent out back. The steering rack is a whopping two per cent faster. At least the changes aren’t as extreme as the Novitec ones.
Perhaps we’re missing something, but it does seem to us like there’s already a car on the 570 roster that might meet the brief of feeling like a 570S; the 570S. But according to Autocar, buyers have been asking McLaren to combine the microscopically subtler looks and extra luggage space of the 570GT with the driving experience of the S.
Some 80 per cent of 570 sales are GTs and McLaren expects that 60 per cent of those will now be ordered with the £4900 S Handling Pack. Reading between the lines on this, McLaren’s buyers might be telling the company exactly what they’d have liked it to have done with the 570 in the first place…
