MG Says Its Electric Sports Car Will Be In Production By 2020, And It'll Cost Less Than £30k

Believe it or not, this striking MG E-Motion concept is actually headed for production, and it won't even cost that much

MG Motor is a curious company. It has precious little to do with the original ‘MG Cars’ company, and its only products in the UK are the sorta OK MG3 supermini, and the sorta OK MG GS crossover. So you can imagine our surprise when the now Chinese-owned brand revealed this ‘E-Motion’ sports car concept, pledging to put it into production by 2020.

Of course, nothing’s definite at this stage, but Matthew Cheyne - MG UK’s sales and marketing big cheese - said at the Shanghai Motor Show that he expects a production version to be here within three years, and that it’ll cost under £30,000.

Almost sounds too good to be true, no? We’ll be remaining skeptical until a production version arrives, but for now MG has our attention.

The two-door coupe is quite the looker, and it should be fast too. With an in-house developed electric powertrain it’s good for a 0-62mph time of four seconds dead, and has a range of up to 310 miles.

A pair of dihedral doors open up to a futuristic looking interior - two details we’d expect to be toned down if a sub-£30k production version does indeed happen. On the inside you’ll also find an “intelligent infotainment system” which MG vaguely states is “fully internet-compatible”. I should hope so…

Fancy a look for yourself? It’s on display from today on the show floor in Shanghai.

As a guy who understands Computers/Technology
Yes it’s true, eletric will not only defeat the petrol, but humiliate it. And it’s going to be fun.

They need a better way to charge these electric cars. Most of all, it needs to be efficient. This alone will take a LONG time to innovate. Let alone the cars themselves.

Otherwise, petrol powered will always humiliate an electric car.
