We are now less than 48 hours away from getting our first glimpse of the eight-generation Chevrolet C8 Corvette. But if that wasn’t enough excitement for one day, anticipation levels have been turned up to eleven following confirmation that the sports car will wear the Stingray moniker.

Yep, that’s right. Uncertainty had surrounded one of the most iconic badges in car history - but the American company has finally put these to bed.

How do we know? On Chevrolet’s media site, it released this dart-like image (below) with the caption: “Did you know the second-generation Corvette debuted as a Sting Ray in 1963? This nameplate ran until 1976, and was then revived in 2014 to introduce the seventh-generation Corvette. Chevrolet is proud to announce the Stingray name will live on’.

While styling details are thin on the ground, Chevrolet has drip-fed some clues. For starters, there is the square-topped, two-spoke steering wheel with silver paddle shifters for the automatic transmission.

Of bigger interest, however, is the mid-mounted engine that will power the C8, and the glorious sound it produces.

The unmistakable barks and burbles are all there - it’s almost certainly a V8. Although unconfirmed, some believe the N/A pushrod motor’s total power will climb - albeit modestly - from 460bhp to around 500.

Further information on the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will be released during its official unveiling on Thursday.

From the spy pics and leaked pics of this I have seen, this will not stop people from buying other super cars simply because this thing does not look good.
