The Mid-Engined Chevrolet Corvette C8 Will Be Here In 2019

According to reports, the Corvette will finally going mid-engine in three year's time

The idea of a mid-engine Corvette has been considered for years. We had the Aerovette concept way back in the 1970s, and the C7 ‘Vette may well have ended up having a mid-engine layout if it wasn’t for General Motor’s financial woes at the time of its inception. However, it’s at last happening.

Recent spy shots (above) appeared to show a mid-engine Corvette test mule, and now we even have an ETA. Citing multiple sources “familiar with the company’s planning,” Detroit News reports that the C8 - codenamed ‘Emperor’ - will be here in 2019, speculating that the switch to a mid-ship power plant is down to Chevrolet wanting to attract younger buyers.

The C8’s arrival won’t immediately kill off the C7. According to Detroit News, the Z06 and Grand Sport models will continue until 2021, at which point the front-engine Corvette will become a thing of the past.

I don’t mind the idea of a mid-engined Corvette, but I think Chevrolet should still make the normal front engined Corvette

I mean, the corvette has undergone many major changes, I-6 to V8, coupe to fastback, pop up lights to fixed, round taillights to square, this is a really drastic change but let’s not shun the idea yet

The corvette already pushes the boundaries of what a front engine rwd car can do. It blows away cars that are extremely identical to it but costs less than half as much. The next logical step is a mid engine layout so they can show the world you can have a mid engine 600+hp car for under 100k that blows the doors off things that are in the next price bracket.

Im glad someone else understands that they are really pushing it as it is in the Z06, so this layout makes sense. But the under 100K thing likely wont be the case.

i completely agree but the reason they are so cheap is because they are poorly made. like me dad’s friend had an old c6 and a had a c7 both of them the body work was about as solid a plastic spoon and the interior at least on the c6 was really poorly put together. (he has sold the C7 for a 2016 HSV GTS with a performance kit putting out 800hp and 600hp to the wheels its bloody mental) look I love Vettes theres nothing that america makes that can beat it apart from the viper but thats about it and they have there a special thing about them that you dont get from many other cars but there build quality is what makes them do much cheaper and in my opinion they are only worth the price they go for whereas the cars that are in its same performance ranger are just nicer places to be in and much better made and personally i believe they are worth the much steeper price tag

I clicked on this fully expecting to hear “never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down.” I was let down.

I don’t think they’re gonna kill off the front-engine ‘Vette, imagine the uproar that’s gonna cause. GM will lose their fanbase instantly. I think they’re gonna keep the front-engine layout with the base model up to the Z06 then make the mid-engined car the top of the range like the C6 ZR1

I think Chevy should stick with the front engined Vette and name this something else to sit above the Vette, and since it has the codename “Emperor” (imo the most badass codename EVER) they could name it that. “Chevrolet Emperor” sounds preety good to me, as long it has the performance to back the name up :D
