This Might Actually Be The 2018 Ford Mustang Bullitt

The long-rumoured Bullitt version of the current Mustang appears to have been spotted during filming
This Might Actually Be The 2018 Ford Mustang Bullitt

The showdown between a green Ford Mustang GT Fastback and a black Dodge Charger in the Bullitt remains one of - if not the - greatest car chases ever seen on film. Tyre smoke, massive jumps, wayward hubcaps - the scene had it all.

So, a limited-edition Mustang celebrating that 1968 Fastback - the car piloted by Lt. Frank Bullitt, portrayed by Steve McQueen - based on the current car would be awesome, no? One has indeed been rumoured for some time, with a design sketch’s appearance in the background of a Ford promo fueling speculation. Now, we’ve had another strong hint that the car is actually happening.

A member of the Mustang6G forum posted up this image, which purports to show a Bullitt-edition Mustang being filmed for an advert in Chicago.

It certainly looks like the real deal: even with the subject blurry and under artificial light, we can be pretty sure the paintwork is intended to echo the original’s ‘Highland Green’ hue. The black and chrome wheels look right, too.

Should this all be going ahead, a Detroit Auto Show debut seems likely. For now, we’ll have to just keep ourselves going by re-watching that amazing car chase…

So, I’ll guess Ford took a mustang, painted it green, threw different wheels on it, maybe changed some interior details, and (possibly) changed badging….. Sounds like a sham to me.

I remember my old Literature teacher had a 5th generation Bullitt. The Green was absolutely beautiful, especially in the sun. I was disappointed when he stopped working at my school the next year though because it meant I could no longer stare at its beauty.
