This Is Might Be The McLaren '750LT'

Although this looks like a McLaren 720S, we don’t think it is. At least, not quite. All the signs are there: a lengthened front splitter, the gurney flaps, sticky Pirelli Trofeo R tyres, the very fact it’s at the Nurburgring in a matte black finish - this is something new.

McLaren has already said it intends to make an LT ‘Long Tail’ version of the 720S, and this might just be it. Or at least an early version - save for a small lip on the top of the spoiler (which is fixed in its extended position for the duration of the footage) and the odd bit of gaffer tape, the rear appears mostly unchanged.

Along with a bunch of aero changes, the Long Tail version of the 720S is likely to receive a small bump in power. Judging by the 600LT and this car’s predecessor - the 675LT - a 30bhp boost in power should be expected, giving the car the name ‘750LT’. Or perhaps McLaren will decide the standard car’s power output is silly enough, and build a ‘720LT’.

We also anticipate a firmer suspension setup to go with the new set of track-focused boots seen in the video, plus a reduction in weight. For the 600LT, McLaren was able to drop the 570S base car’s weight by a massive 100kg using a variety of means including switching many parts to carbonfibre items.

According to a recent report on Pistonheads, we’re looking at a 2020 reveal for the car, with the 720LT/750LT saying hello to the world for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show next March.
