Following on from VW’s GTI Roadster effort last week, the latest Gran Turismo Vision concept is here. And it’s more insane than we ever thought possible. Dubbed the XR-PHEV Evolution, the mad Mitsubishi takes visual cues from the recent XR-PHEV crossover concept. It’s a rather less restrained beast than the standard XR-PHEV, using a carbonfibre-reinforced plastic body which features some of the most extreme arches we’ve ever seen.

There are huge vents and grilles everywhere you look, while the rear has a gigantic ‘because racecar’ spoiler. The crazy concept sits on an impressive set of 20-inch wheels and drive is sent to all wheels from a hybrid powertrain (no power or performance figures just yet) via an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Want to drive this thing? You’ll need to download update 1.08 in Gran Turismo 6, after which the car can be purchased in the Vision GT area, or (for a limited time) by completing a lap in the new Seasonal Event.
